01 = Month (Jan)
24 = Day
D = 283 with Powerglide from a passenger car 1958 and up.
There was no "D" engine code in 1957 and the "D" code used 1956 was the 265, but it would have a long serial number in front of your engine code. Your engine should have motor mount bolt bosses cast on the side (1958 was the first year for them).
The date code cast into the block will be on the top of the bellhousing flange.
