Your best approach may be to buy a replacement Radiator/fender support: example and go from there. The mounting holes in the crossmember are frequently cracked. I repaired mine with a doubler on the bottom and welded the cracks and redrilled. Stuff that's welded on can be removed, but you'll need the correct dimensions to get it back together.
