Hello to all,

It's been a while since I lasted posted. One reason is that due to all the help from this forum we do have the '49 3100 on the road and the owner is enjoying it!

There is one feature on the sliding tire carrier bracket that caught us by surprise initially. There is a small stamped steel housing that is welded off-center of the hole for the J-bolt. It somewhat interferes with the special nut we got from Steve at Mongo's Garage.

At first we were thinking about removing the stamping. I think i figured out why that stamped part if there.

It appears to be where the spare tire carrier lock fits. I cannot find great pictures of that lock. It appears to have the hole for the J-bolt off to one side. The whole part (which I think is a casting of some type) rests inside the stamped part.

Is my thinking correct?

I also know that the chances of finding that part are almost non-existent!

Thanks for the info!
