I've pretty much used the same attack as GL. If you have a torch handy, heating the lug nut a bit will sometimes make the difference. If they have been bolted on a long time the lug nuts may be only half the battle. I've had to take a hammer to the wheel a few times to shake the rust out between the wheel and hub and around the lug studs.
