I have a very annoying squeak coming from my 1966 C10 driver's-side, upper control-arm shaft and end-cap. When tightened, the end cap is right up against the end of the shaft and will not allow any grease to enter the cavity. Therefore, the threads are dry and squeaking badly.
The end cap is also eating into the side of the A-arm. I bought some large grade 8 washers and had a machinist enlarge the hole just large enough to fit over the end-cap shaft to stop the end cap from eating into to A-arm and provide some space for grease. But unfortunately, when tightened, I cannot force any grease into the threads. A pressure grease gun cannot do it either. So, the threads dry out and squeak. The only solution I have found is to remove the end-caps periodically, manually grease the threads and put it back together again. A very poor design.
That's a lot of work to stop a squeak every few months.
Any suggestions?
