The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Identifying a 261 in a 1945 Flxible Clipper

Good Afternoon,

We are trying to nail down the build year of a 261 that we have as the power plant in our 1945 Flxible Clipper.

The machined surface near the distributor is not stamped.

There is a casting posterior of the machined surface that reads, "CON4 H31 0".

Any thoughts on where one might find more identifying numbers? What does the CON4 H31 0 tell you folks that can decipher such things?

Here is a photograph of the engine, in situ. Please disregard the temporary rear control wiring. It was in place just to make getting things running and tuned easier as it is 30' to the other end of the rig.
