Though the 261 has always carried heavy loads really well I would rather put the low mileage motor into a small truck and put a v8 that it always needed into the dumptruck. I understand a v8 is a direct bolt in? Because of the gearing it should be a motor that likes rpms.
But the tranny has always had this noise. I assume it is the tranny. It is a very loud vibrating noise when the truck drives at freeway speeds with no load on the engine. It does fine either accelerating or decellerating with the tranny but let it coast in gear and the noise comes in. I assume this is bearings? My truck has the dumpbed so I guess it is easier to stick with this tranny? What will it need?
