Before committing to P/S, has the steering been rebuilt? New tie-rod ends, drag-link ends, king pins, and the steering box rebuilt will make a huge difference in how they drive and steer. Tire air pressure and tire width also makes a difference. If you choose to go with P/S, the linkage and king pins still need to be rebuilt. Someone will come along with the parts you will need for the upgrade, I have seen Toyota gear boxes mentioned but I don't know for what years. There are ways to add the power assist with out cutting the truck apart. Rack & Pinion on straight axles don't go together, it really makes for some less than ideal steering columns.
