A 1940 flywheel is held on by 3/8” bolts and has a slightly larger center hole. 1942 on up used 7/16” bolts.
I have seen 1940-41 flywheels drilled for 7/16” bolts, and the center hole diameter was not an issue, (even though it was designed to center the flywheel I am sure), as the three lineup dowels keep the flywheel in position.

Bellhousing and transmission are no problem.
