With the Camaro clip you have pasenger car class brakes designed to stop a car that might have weighed 4000 pounds fully loaded. Your truck isn't likely to weigh any more than that, but doesn't weigh much less either.
Add that 3500 pound load and 1500 pounds of trailer, plus anything you put in the bed of the truck, and your cargo weighs nearly twice the truck and twice what your brakes are designed to stop.
So if you have good trailer brakes and keep them in perfect repair you are probably safe. As long as nothing goes wrong. My own solution is to use a 1-ton pickup to pull my car trailer. Something could still fail, but the margin before I'm in trouble is much greater.
