Pertronix was invented to allow keeping the "look" of an original distributor and still have a pointless ignition. To maintain a more purist original presentation. It has a remote coil. You are not in that category with a 74 motor. Older motors don't really have an off the shelf drop in HEI dizzy. They are all aftermarket modified. So they use home made, Langdon or Pertronix. The price of Pertronix seems the same as a GM style HEI. So why are you asking? Why bother? You got your answer already.
Reviews on various vendor sites and forums still show problems with Pertronix. You will have no problems with a good GM dizzy.
