A torch would definitely simplify things but I did it with hand tools out in the pasture. I used the bed off a 1951 chevy longbed because it was for sale cheap and had a similar look to the 46 half ton bed in that it had the same angled upper bedsides. It's still shorter than a modern longbed but is still more usable for me than a shortbed.
