I have custom made spring from Detroit Spring under my '37. It sets lower then stock, but thats what I asked for. They will make them however you want. It wasn't cheap, but it sure rides a heck of a lot better.
Adding Teflon liner between each leaf helps, but if the spring rate is high, it will still ride rough. '37 trucks had heavy spring rates for some reason, the truck is fairly light weight, less then your '50, yet the spring rate was about twice as much. Mine are less then half of what GM installed. If you go to the GM Heritage site,

Look at Average Rate of Deflection, this is the spring rating. It take 315 lbs to compress the spring 1", the higher the number, the more weight the truck can carry. You maybe able to swap springs from another year if the are softer and have the same length and width, just look at some other years at the Heritage Center files.
So when shopping for springs, if the seller cannot give you the spring rate, keep on looking, you could end up with heavier then you got now!
