I did clean that area of the frame rail, but I will check again. I think the cab was swapped out at some point unfortunately as you guessed. Interestingly, when they did the cab swap (I think this was a LONG time ago) they swapped the drivers side kick plate, but didn't touch the VIN tag on the door jamb. I had the DMV inspection officer come out and take a look and he couldn't find other numbers. Since we have no other identification to go on, it will be getting a bonded title for the cab VIN.
I do have the old registration (and title) for the original VIN, which I will hang on to just to have. I could just do what has been done for many years with this truck and register/title it with the original VIN but that really wouldn't be the right way. My only concern is the GVWR, according to the '66 owners guide I bought not all C60H trucks had a 24k rating.
What's interesting is that both VINs are '66 C60H trucks. HC6536B116228 and HC6336B120924. The only difference I can tell is the wheelbase.
I am reaching out to the GM heritage VIN center to see if they can give me RPO codes and GVWR for both numbers. I am not holding my breath.
UPDATE: GM Heritage said their build records and invoices only go back to 1977. That is a bummer. How do guys with 60s muscle cars get RPO info if the vehicle is missing the sticker?
