| | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | I also converted my 56 to 5 lug front disc brakes but it was 20 years ago and I didn't like the aforementioned disc conversion. In both cases replacement wheels were required. It also requires either having a machine shop re-drill the rear axles to match the front, which I did, or replacing the rear end assembly. The ideal situation is to convert to disc brakes with minimal modifications and still use the stock wheels, hub caps, and not have to mortgage the farm. For a casual driver vehicle, there is nothing wrong with drum brakes that are properly rebuilt and adjusted. They can also be made better with a booster and dual master cylinder.
