Hello Wolfgang,
If the car you are working on is a Chevy, normally, you turn the key to the right. Usually the first click is a click to activate the ignition coil, then a momentary click further to the right "starts" the car.
A turn to the left, rather than right, initiates the "Accessory" feature (if the car has one).
