Once the hub and bearings are reassembled, jack up the opposite wheel so the axle tube is tilted pretty noticeably. If the rear end grease is at the proper level, it will run down the axle tube and lubricate the bearings. If this isn't done, and the hub has been assembled dry, the weight of the vehicle on the dry bearing can damage it before the lube works its way down the axle tube.
