$10,000 isn't too far off the mark if it's a real complete QB 409/425. The HiPo heads (583's or 690's)are selling sometimes for $5000 a pair. Hell, the valve covers alone go for several hundred. The HiPo valve covers were factory chromed and had "drippers" on the inside. The oil that got splashed up onto the bottom of the cover would run down the drippers and onto the rocker pivots. It's a bummer that the timing cover is missing off that engine, I sold one off a 348 for $160 a couple years ago...
I've seen original 409/425 cars sell for upwards of $50,000.
If you really want a "W Block" for your truck, a 348 would be a much better value. A good running one can be had for usually under $1000. You can't make near as much power as a HiPo 409 because of the 348's head and block design, but you can warm them up quite a bit. With some work, you can put a 427 crank in it, and with a LOT of work a 454 crank can be made to fit.
