Thanks for the correction.
When I read your reply I was scratching my head on how by pushing on the pinion gear, was going to help remove it.
Like the pinion bearings were going to move inward a bit as to break them loose.
No harm No foul
Personally I think the pinion bearings are rusted in place, there was water in the case.
