These are the two styles of lifters. The shorter GM lifter on the right is actually a 55-58 hydraulic lifter but the 59-63 hydraulic lifters and the solid lifters for 56-63 have the same outward design. The lifter on the left is what is sometimes referred to as a milkcan style lifter.
