I've been told they never had a keylock on the driver side.Just the passenger side so thats probably why the latch isn't there. This might be wives tale but the reason for no lock on the driver side is the roads in those days wern't paved or in bad shape that most people went out the passenger side so they would not get muddy anyone else heard about this tale!!!!!!!!
