Just bolt a piece of chain snug to the top of the block, using 1/2-13 Grade 5 bolts. Use a flat washer between the chain and the top of the block to prevent putting any scars on the head gasket surface. Problem solved. I usually use a big hammer and an anvil to massage the link at the end of a lift chain into a roughly circular shape to allow the right size bolt to pass through it easily. A piece of 5/16" or maybe 3/8" chain will be plenty strong to lift any stovebolt engine.
