I just finished the punkin swap and Steppenwoods expose demonstrates the ease of the proceedure very well. I have some photos of other processes of the swap if interested (posting of them pending new web site and some organization). I inquired about options on here and understand any 1/2 ton Chevy truck 3rd member from 55 to 62 will slip right in. Me, I found a 55 in the neighborhood with 3:90's. Kept stock brakes, axels, housing width, 6 lug wheels, etc. Bought the 2 1/2" u-bolts from a farm supply, etc. My opinion this is the way to go based on ease and cost. I am biased as today I finished a T-5 swap. Again all the above goes for it as well... photos, cudos to Steppenwood, etc.
I flew in here on the 15th and in 14 days have done a complete rear swap, t-5 instal,had drive shaft made, replaced bushings and shakles on the rear, gotten my wheels sandblasted, grew a beard and visited with my mom and dad!
This is all on a 46 as well.
