Well, since the oil pan is already on the engine, you've got a problem- - - - -those bolts are supposed to go through the front main bearing cap and screw into the threaded holes in the timing cover. The stovebolt engine was designed that way back when it was a common practice to adjust the main bearing clearance with shims during an "in the frame" overhaul, and with the engine in the car, those bolts were difficult to reach from the front. When they stopped adjusting the mains with shims in mid-1954, they didn't change the orientation of the bolts.
