I did the boat gas can trick for a few months on my '73 Scout II. Drove it around town like that, just had to remember I had a 6 gallon range. The boat tanks are safer onroad cuz they're sealed & the fitting makes hooking up a fuel line easy. For yard movement a regular gas can would work, just keep an extinguisher handy.
