Took the quick way and just sliced the grommets.... NO secrets to these now. They were pressed in 60 years ago when they were flexible. Rubber was now too hard to get any flex and push back out through the hole.
I will go with the suggestion of replacing with new. Lots of corrosion in the Beast. thanks for input
