Last rebuild, the new accelerator pump leather was dried out and smaller diameter than the old swollen one. So I reused the old one and all is well. I wet that new one with a bunch of oil and put in a ziplock for next time, maybe it'll swell up to proper diameter. Believe if I'd used the new I woulda had same problems OP had.
