I had my axle dropped at mor-drop last year. They did an exchange. I sent them my totally refurbished painted axle, they sent me back a very nasty, scaly axle to refurbish for a second time. They still do chevy axles. If they have one in stock with the correct drop, they will send you one otherwise they drop yours. They are slow. Even with an exchange I think mine was gone 6 weeks.
The king pin didn't fit very well when it came back either. The hole was actually slightly smaller than original. I don't know if this is an outcome of the heating process or not. It cleaned up pretty easily and then everything was fine.
Classic Performance Products sells a tubular dropped axle that fits 47 - 54 trucks. It would fit a 1940 truck also, you just need the later hubs and kingpins to go with it.
