Our solution.......

because our semi cab over military trucks are impossible to get under the hood........ before we install the cab..... and do the test run of the engine we do the following.....

1 establish...... using the GM little hole.....exactly where the timing mark is and the BB in the flywheel......and paint in vivid color.

2 crawl underneath and with the sheet metal cover removed from the bottom of the bell housing..... punch and paint a yellow paint dot on the back of the clutch body.

3 before the floor goes down.... remove the inspection cover on the bellhousing ( 2 screws) and mark TDC punch and yellow paint dot on the clutch body.

4 grind a small groove at 12 o'clock on the harmonic balancer and paint as above.

You may never know when you will need either of them................ for example when turning the flywheel by hand from underneath for setting valves etc.....

Once our cabs are in place it is a pure nightmare and can't even use a timing light for lack of room.
