As long as you don't get the level in the float chamber so low that it tries to empty itself on a long uphill pull with wide open throttle, you can get by with a slightly lower than specified float setting. Also be aware that more venturi vacuum is needed to draw the fuel from the float bowl into the airstream, so a lower float setting will also result in a slightly leaner high speed mixture.
