Again, a quick search will pull up a description of a 3/4 ton 8-lug disk brake conversion that someone did. I have looked at the web site a couple of times, but didn't dog ear it.
II kits or subs . . . either one can be great or screwed up. Depends on the guy behind the blue wrench, tape measure, welder. Hanging sheet metal isn't a big deal if you have a modicum of farm yard common sense and ability with a welder.
As with anything, if you have lots of time and little money - the sub route is a good option.
I am keeping my straight axle on my burb project. King pins from SSBrake Company and my own 6 lug disk brake conversion kit so that I can retain 16" stock rims. It is a retro rod so to speak.
I personally don't have a problem with using a sub - it does force you to take more responsibility in getting it placed just right because you will not have an instruction book leading you along the way. I have never liked using instructions and always preferred to make my own wake so it was a good solution for me.
