I don't have to worry about ice or snow but the Texas sun will turn upholstery and plastic into toast if not shaded. After not so good luck with covers I now make a 2x4 framework and cover it with 26g tin. A bonus is protection from hail that occurs here way too often. Pickups have bed stake holes for the vertical supports and on the front I just use long all thread in two of the bumper bracket holes. I'm sure that the material total is not higher than the cost of a good cover, set up/take down is just minutes, lasts for years, has survived hail, 60 mph winds, falling acorns, and small tree branches. If one wasn't a caveman carpenter like this writer it could even be made attractive.
