I remove the tailgate from my '97 during the winter months (so that I can see my wifes car when backing into the driveway - short narrow driveway with gate) and I see a difference. It seems like my mileage changes a little every week lately but last winter I saw a couple miles per gallon in my mixed driving. I guess I should have recorded it but when I read an article discrediting the tailgate down theory I found it hard to believe that they could disprove it scientifically.
