I doubt that there would be any increase in performance with a paper filter. Paper filters could reduce performance depending on filter size and the porosity specs of the filter.
Oil bath filters are relatively free flowing when clean and remain so until very dirty. They are not as effective at keeping dirt out of the engine, however.
