I'm with EdPruss. I leave the nut on about 3, and a half turns. Then grab the steering wheel by the spokes, about half way to the hub. So as not to crack the epoxy (steering) wheel.
Give it some sharp jerks, and a little wiggling back, and forth. The procedure is familiar, as I just replaced the the blinker switch on my '64 about a week ago.
