While I completely agree with Jerry about lower air velocity on O.E. carburetors, this one is not O.E.
Carburetion 101 - the three major methods of helping atomize fuel are: (A) heat, (B) higher air velocity, and (C) throw more fuel at the engine.
Carter released the 4371s for replacement on standard transmission 230, 250, and 292 engines. These "one size fit all carbs" are generally calibrated much richer than O.E. carbs (see "C" above).
It should work, albeit not as well as one designed specifically for the 235. And fuel mileage will probably not be good.
