I've got a Chevy 12 bolt rear also.
I'm not too concerned about getting rear-ended ... first of all, if anyone rear-ends me, I'll KILL them!!!
Second, I've got a heavy duty steel diamond-plated rear bumper welded back there, so hopefully it's safer than it looks. I *am* very attentive to my rear-view mirror though ... if I see anyone coming at my rear and not paying attention, I'm prepared to floor it and get out of Dodge!
