Spreading the resistance out over several feet of wire makes a lot more sense than concentrating it all in one place with a ceramic resistor. The heat of a ceramic resistor can cause burns if anyone touches it, and those resistors are much more prone to burn-out than the wire type resistor. Using the wire type voltage drop is a MUCH better choice.
