Second, is the front straight axle different (bigger or smaller) between the chevy versus GMC and between 1/2 ton versus 3/4 ton?

I got my rims changed in 2006 and they were done by Stockton Wheel in Stockton California. At the time, they were the only ones doing that type of work but now there are many that can do that. Ask around. Front axle on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton are different and not interchangeable; six lugs on 1/2 ton and 8 on 3/4 ton but Chevy to GMC front axles in same size truck are the same.
