I've got a 64 C10 (
UglyTruck I ) that I originally bought as a winter beater. I've decided that I like the truck so much I'm gonna "fix it up." Actually the plan is to turn it into a rat rod...sorta.
Anyway, I found a good deal on another truck (
Ugly Truck II ) which is a 74 C10 with 454 and TH400. The motor and trans will go into a different project (The big block will probably end up powering my race car on the salt flats) but I plan to use the front suspension, brakes and power steering on Ugly Truck I. I had hoped to use the rear end (I'm not sure if UT II has posi or not, but I bleeve it's a 3.08 gear, where UT I has a 4.10 or so.) I'm keepin the 292 I6 and SM420, but hoppin it up a little (AFB carb, headers, etc.) so I could pull a higher gear.
Problem is, the 64 is coil spring rear suspension and the 74 is leaf. Therein lies my dilemma. I suppose I could swap the center section and axles, but I'm not a rear end guy (I prefer breasts, myself) and a bolt-in solution would be better. Question is, can the leaf spring setup be adapted to the 64's frame easily or would it be simpler to take both rear ends to a shop and have them swap the guts so that I have a 3.08 posi with 5-bolt axles?
