On my '47 3100 there are threaded movable anchor plates behind the door strikers. These plates fit into 'pockets' that allow the strikers to be adjusted vertically and horizontally. Take the side that you are having trouble with apart and you will see the plates. I'm sure you can make a replacement plate quite easily. Perhaps the '53 is different?
