Makes sense replacement engine. And they probably stamped the old engine serial numbers one the new replacement engine . It does look like it was stamped by someone other than a factory stamp . The number indents on the block is not as deep as other serial numbers I’ve seen on other blocks. Block date casting code and head date casting codes all macth 1948 codes. all numbers macth 1948 except the serial number so it makes perfect sense that they probably stamped the original serial number on replacement engine.
