Thanks Tim and sstock. I saw the pics of the mount bracket bolted to the bell.
This page from the 48-51 shop manual lubrication chart shows the trans crossmember mount on a 1/2-ton 3-speed truck
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0008a.htmI suppose that same crossmember mount is used on 1/2-ton 4-speeds
This page from same manual shows no trans crossmember mount on a 3/4-ton truck
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0009a.htmThis page from same manual shows no trans crossmember mount on a 1-ton truck with 4-speed
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0010a.htmSo, what does all this data tell us? I think the trans crossmember mount was a 1/2-ton item only. And maybe someone already stated that and I missed it...
I know there are new things to learn everyday, even about subjects with which we are familiar. I got my first AD truck in 1989 and have read and studied them ever since. But I don't know it all.
