I know a guy who has swapped an entire S-10 frame under a '39. I believe the '39 and '46 are similar enough underneath that it shouldn't be too difficult. He is about 600 miles from me, so I can't just drop by and take pictures...

I've seen a couple of Art Deco trucks with Corvair IFS underneath. I'm told its a pretty simple project, and likely not very expensive. If I remember right the Corvair Greenbriar van IFS is supposed to be the best one for this. They were not available with disk brakes, though I know some conversions were available for the cars.

Another idea might be to grab a Toyota pickup frame from the years when they used 6-lug wheels. I haven't looked at one with out a body, but from underneath they look easy to work with. You'd then have modern suspension and the ability to run stock looking wheels.

I toyed with putting a 4x4 Toyota under one of my trucks. The wheelbase was short, but otherwise the measurements all seemed doable for a '54 Chevy.

Obviously I'd rather think up answers for your truck than work this afternoon. I'd better focus on getting something done!
