Maybe this is why I've had a spare stomp starter lying around for so many years. Some day.........

I switched over my 6v rig to 12v some years ago. Starter rarely gives me an issue. Once in a while it will freely spin when I lightly stomp on it, but not very often. I should find the spare to see where the gear resides when extended as well as confirming the shaft diameter.
