You cannot determine the model GMC truck from the Engine Serial Number

A228
A = modifications to the engine/block from "normal" (marked at the engine plant)
228 = 228 engine
194608 = sequence number

If there is an ID plate on the driver's door jamb, that will hold the series/model code.

Unfortunately, many states (and DMV offices) used the Engine Serial Number for registration/title purposes.
This does not uniquely ID the truck, and does not ID the model of the truck).
