I'm assuming you're talking about a Borg-warner OD on a 3 speed? If you run fast enough in 2nd. to let the OD engage, you'll have to use the kickdown to get back into 3rd. gear direct drive after you shift. I can't imagine a need to use OD in second gear in the first place.
