I have a 1/2" drive ratchet set that works as you described via an internal hammer spring. The socket extensions shafts are about 1-1/4" in diameter to prevent flexing when it hammers. I'll take a look at it next time I'm in the shop to see who made it. I carry it when I'm walking the junk yards.
