Not too many drawbacks. The 235 will run fine with a points dist but the HEI system avoids points and allows you to use a wider gap on the plugs (better spark, etc). I've used both and prefer the HEI.
Langdon's distributor is fine and of course Tom is also. I'm using one now. Avoid the Chinese stuff.
