Beating on kingpins either works easily or is a bad idea.
It’s not uncommon to bend the axle and change camber angle trying to remove a stuck kingpin.

If it’s stuck taking the axle to a press is the right idea. If still no luck then keep pressure on it and warm the axle eye with an oxygen acetylene torch, should do the trick.
